Getting there
From several UK airports, Thomsonfly and Thomas Cook (no sign yet of EasyJet or Ryanair) provide seasonal service to Skiáthos airport, which is just under 2km (a mile) from town (taxis).
Ferries and catamarans from Vólos or Agios Konstandínos berth on the town jetty next to the Boúrtzi islet, which sets apart the old (fishing and excursion boat) port; yachts anchor at the marina along the far north-east quay.
Getting around
Buses: the excellent south-coast bus service plies frequently between town and Koukounariés resort, 7.5 miles west, until late, calling at 26 numbered stops
Taxi-boats: a waterborne service, less frequent than buses, shuttles between the old port and Tzaneriá
Vehicle hire: to get elsewhere, hire a car, jeep or scooter; we’ve used Aegean Car Rental a few times without problems
Walking: considering the periodic fires and bulldozing, there is still quite good hiking to be had on the island; Either Anavasi’s 1:25,000 map 10.11, locally available or through mountains.gr, or alternatively Terrain’s 1:15, 000 ‘319 Skiathos’ (terrainmaps.gr), is essential for any independent ramblings
